Hey, friends!
Did you know that a vitamin D deficiency can increase insulin resistance? I just learned that this week when I found out my vitamin D level is low.
Have your doctor check your vitamin D level, especially during these winter months when we are getting less sun than usual. If you are low, you can get a prescription for a strong dose of D to get your levels back up.
You can get some vitamin D from food, but it's difficult, according to my dietitian, to get enough. Even though I don't take any supplements right now and believe getting "the good stuff" through diet and exercise and all that is most important, I want to do everything I can to immediately improve my blood sugar control.

Sometimes I wonder if Jada was terribly deficient in Vitamin D and if that was the "trigger" that sent diabetes into action! She was diagnosed after a winter of living in Alaska (3-4 hours of partial sunlight). I wonder because she chipped a tooth while eating a chocolate chip cookie a few months before diagnosis...and it wasn't a hard, crispy one. I do think they say that the teeth are the first to go when deficient. :( It's an important vitamin and being back up here, I DO think about my other kids and the amount of vit. D that they're getting!
I was diagnosed a year ago with a Vitamin D deficiency. In October I began taking a supplement from Rodan + Fields Dematologists that is a once-a-week capsule. I just found out this week that I am no long deficient and that my "numbers" went from 12 to 27.5. The doctor said to keep doing whatever I'm doing and of course I will. I don't want this to be a commercial but I do sell these supplements along with medicated skin care products to address sun damage and aging. If you want to know more about this supplement visit my website skuzma.myrandf.com.
I love readding, and thanks for your artical. ........................................
