Vitamin B6

My feet straddling my daughter's....on a lovely beach in Alabama

I'm now on vitamin B6 for my feet. Woo hoo.

Apparently the medication Metanx isn't covered by many insurance companies because it's a "supplement" and not a medication. My podiatrist informed me that the main ingredient is vitamin B6. So instead of paying the out-of-pocket cost for Metanx, I'm taking B6. "Every day, for the rest of your life," saith the good doc.

Another component to the drug is B12 and folic acid, but the doc claims they are added in without the same major benefits of B6. Plus, folic acid is more easily obtained through diet than the amounts of B6 I need for my feet.

I'm also supposed to be on the hunt for "breathable fabrics" used to make good-quality shoes. Sigh! I hate shoe shopping and swimsuit shopping because it's rare to find a good fit that flatters and that doesn't cost a fortune.

But I'm going to have to suck it up, hit the shoe department, and start taking better care of my feet. After all, they try to take good care of me.

BLAME

The new KFC sandwich----no bun. Instead, two chicken slabs.
Cereal, a "super size" bag, at my local Wal-Mart. It's chocolate and marshmallows.

People with diabetes face a lot of blame and as a result, a lot of guilt. We are asked if we gave it to ourselves by eating too much sugar. Yes, too much sugar isn't good for a person with diabetes, but it's also not good for anyone. Nor is the food that most Americans consume.

Take, for example, the two photos above. These are all-American foods----full of fat and sugar. Nothing healthy. In fact, these foods do the complete opposite---they strip away our health.
EVERYONE should be eating better and working out and demanding that healthier food options become available. EVERYONE should stop rolling his or her eyes at the facts. EVERYONE should listen and stop pretending that what we are eating isn't killing us.
Whatever you put in your mouth---someone is watching. A spouse. A friend. A child. A grandchild. A colleague. A fellow committee member. You have the power to set an example for someone while improving your own life.
Please stop blaming the person next to you, because it's highly likely you are on the same path.

What's In My Fridge

I'm totally obsessed with making these. It's a really simple snack/dessert full of vitamins and antioxidants which does all sorts of good things for the body. Plus, oranges and chocolate are two foods that never spike my sugars. Yum Yum!

All you do is melt dark chocolate and drizzle over (peeled) orange slices. Refrigerate on wax paper to harden the chocolate.

It's not ice cream, but it sure is delicious!
